This past weekend, the Basketball National Arena in Tallaght, Dublin, hosted an exciting group stage of the Celtic Cup 2024/25. Teams from Ireland and Scotland took to the court in a fierce battle for a place in the Final 4, and the competition did not disappoint. Across both the men’s and women’s tournaments, we saw intense handball action, with both nations showing their prowess and determination.

Here’s a breakdown of the results from the weekend’s matches:

Women’s Group Stage Results

The four teams who qualified for the women's finals are:

  • 1st place: Edinburgh
  • 2nd place: Astra
  • 3rd place: Tryst
  • 4th place: DCH

Edinburgh and Astra both proved to be tough opponents, securing two important victories and ensuring their spot in the final stage. Meanwhile, Tryst and DCH performed consistently with one win each, also qualifying into the final four.

Men’s Group Stage Results

The four teams who qualified for the men's finals are:

  • 1st place: Dublin International
  • 2nd place: Tryst
  • 3rd place: EK82
  • 4th place: Kelvinside

Dublin International emerged as the top performer for the men's teams, as the only Irish team go forward, giving Scotland the advantage going into the finals. Tryst HC fought hard and also secured a top position with two crucial wins, marking them as Scotland's leading team heading into the finals. 

Next Up: The Finals

The top 4 teams from this group stage will advance to the Final 4 weekend, set to take place on February 22nd and 23rd, 2025 at Oriam in Edinburgh, Scotland. 

Who will emerge as the Celtic Cup Champions – Ireland or Scotland? We’ll have to wait until February to find out.
