Olympic Handball Ireland (OHI), the National Governing Body for the sport across all 32 counties, is inviting expressions of interest for roles on our Board of Directors.
As a Director, you'll help guide the development of Olympic handball in Ireland—supporting everything from grassroots to national teams, coaching, refereeing, and competitions. This is a voluntary, non-executive role, offering the opportunity to shape strategy, uphold strong governance, and contribute to the sport’s growth.

Ideal candidates will bring strategic insight, strong governance awareness, and a passion for community development. Experience in the not-for-profit or sport sector is desirable, along with a commitment to diversity, inclusion, and the values of Olympic Handball Ireland. An understanding of the legal responsibilities of a company director in Ireland is also an asset.
Acting in accordance with the Constitution of Olympic Handball Ireland and the law
Maintaining the highest standards of corporate governance and transparency
Contributing meaningfully at Board meetings and taking shared responsibility for decisions
Acting independently and in the best interests of OHI, not as a representative of any other group
Preparing adequately for meetings and participating in committees or events as needed
Upholding confidentiality and data protection obligations
Avoiding conflicts of interest and adhering to OHI’s code of conduct
Supporting and holding staff accountable through the CEO, without interfering in daily operations
Championing OHI’s mission, values and the development of handball across Ireland
Time Commitment: The Board meets around 8 times per year, mainly via Zoom/Teams. Additional time (approx. 6–8 hours/month) is required for preparation, occasional in-person meetings, committee participation, and strategic events. Co-opted Directors serve until the next AGM and may be nominated for a three-year term.
